This research project investigates the convergence of military and cultural knowledge during the Second World War in the Indo-Myanmar borderlands. These processes came together to mobilize local populations, material-culture and information, while simultaneously producing new modalities of knowledge, violence and organization of post-war and post-colonial societies in the borderlands. The project historicizes contemporary debates on political violence and anticipates emergent discourses of democracy, development and militarization and the making of frontiers into borderlands.
